H Gasser Memorial Scholarship
Established by the Estate of Henry and Joan Gasser to provide scholarship support for students who are Art majors.
Painter, lecturer, teacher, illustrator and author Henry Gasser was born in Newark, New Jersey. He painted in watercolor and oils and his work consisted of, in his own words, “everyday subjects that are available to most of us- street scenes, back yards, trees, old houses, etc.” He also painted numerous harbor and fishing village scenes. He began his extensive education in art at the Newark School for Fine and Industrial Arts where he held the post of director between 1946 and 1954. After attending the Newark School, he went on to New York’s Grand Central Academy, before becoming a pupil of Robert Brackman’s at the Art Students League. He completed his artistic education as a private student of John Grabach. Gasser has had an exceptionally successful career exhibiting in the United States and abroad. He received many prizes, awards, and medals from distinguished art societies and has works in more than twenty-eight museum collections, among them the Philadelphia, Boston, and Newark Museums. He died in 1981.
